Mushrooms and berries!

I went cruising my neighbourhood for some of autumns goodness. I found a little, and had a wonderful day out with one of my dogs!

For anyone picking mushrooms, make sure you know your thing! Species are easily mistaken for each other, and innocent looking ones can send you to the hospital for a long time, even kill you.

So, enjoy what the forest can give you, but take care and make sure you know what you are doing.

(There are even places you can take your mushrooms to get them looked at if you are unsure. Check with your local council or mushroom interest groups for this.)

Dissection t shirt surgery!

All metalheads of the female side knows how horribly hard it is to get nice fitting shirts from our favorite bands. I am not the first to start customizing my shirts, but I do like to share ideas, and hope that someone will find this interesting.
I've done loads of different style shirts, but for this video I took one of my extra large shirts and made it into a mini mini dress, with a feminin touch of ribbons at the sides. They are ofc removable.
Anyways, enjoy the clip, get sewing and stay metal!!!

Painting t shirts with bleach!

So, I got inspired by my friend and partner in creative crimes Tor øyvind last weekend to pick up a long lost craft technique. As I told you in a previous post, I would make a video on this, so I just did :)

Here it is:

Have fun trying it on your own! And don´t breathe in the fumes!

Homemade Burgers filled with Brie and Mustard

So, as I am calling myself the making things girl, I will be posting loads of different projects on here. Not just crafts, but also other things you can make, like food. I only started enjoying cooking a few years ago, but I've learned a lot, and now I find it incredibly satisfying. I love experimenting with flavors, kinda just go for it and make it up as I go along. I hardly use recipes anymore. Mostly I succeed, but I do have a few mishaps every now and then.
My dad was going away this evening, so I decided to invite my Mum down and surprise her with a twist on an old recipe of hers for friday evening dinner. My brother hunts moose, elk and what not, so we all have our freezers full of yummy, high quality meat. Hunting season is only a month away, so, it's time to clean out the freezer and make space for more meat for the winter.

This is a pretty fast and easy dish, it's really tasty, and you can change the fillings to suit your own taste. I never tried it with Brie before, but I must say, it was really yummy! Here it is, enjoy!

I'm sorry some of the rolling text ended up a little faster after uploading it. I'll fix it as soon as I can.

Painting with bleach on clothing

I got inspired by my good illustrator friend and partner in creative graphics crimes over the weekend to take up an old hobby of mine. I used to make loads of tie dye and also painted on fabric with normal house hold bleach when I was younger. He had made a few killer t shirts, so I decided I had to have a go at this. I made one to just check it out, a little on the geeky side, but what can you do. Love my druid :)
Here's a quick preview of my new shirt, and I'll start making another one where I am filming and taking photos of the process. New videos will be coming up over the next couple of days! Got a logo for a friend to fix too. Well it's more like a watermark thing for his photography work, but never the less, a logo.

Busy bee!

Ok, been a few days since updating, but I have my reasons. First of all I had to go in to Oslo and fill in for the festival goers at Rock In, so all I was making over the weekend was drinks and a whole lot of tip. It was so amazingly nice to see everyone, and when people lined up to give me goodbye cuddles on friday night at closing time, my heart got all warm and fuzzy.
This week I have started my first proper university degree, Bachelor of visual arts and communication. I have realized the private colleges I have been at earlier, is just freakin kindergarden compared to this, but I am still very much looking forward to it! The lectures seem very interesting, the teachers are passionate and fun to listen to, and I have already met a couple nice people. The fact that I am gonna learn so much in such a short amount of time is a bit scary, yet it inspires me to keep giving full throttle the whole way. I am nothing but excited actually!
I have also managed to squeeze in curtain making, so now my living room is all nice and purple, and I mad a little leopard print lampshade to match, 4 new pillows for the lounge, did some shopping, cleaned out the storage room, cleaned the loft and managed to sleep in between!
Phhuuiii!!!!
Anyways, just popping in to say hi, and I have a couple videos comin up shortly.

Have a great day!

Artwork and Illustrations

I started picking up crayons before I could even walk as a kid, and the love of drawing is a permanent thing for me. Sadly I haven't had much time to get my creative needs satisfied through this the past year or so, but with my new tablet in place this is gonna change a lot!
To share on here, and to inspire myself into drawing more, I made a short video slideshow of some of my works from the past few years. There's pastels, watercolor, digital media, some photo art, tattoo designs, oils, chalk, pencil, pen and ink, markers, u name it! I love exploring all the different kind of styles, and I'm not afraid to mix them up, experiment and have fun.
I hardly ever give my works names. People see things differently, and I want it to be the same with my art. I don't feel I have the right to decide what people are gonna see, even in my creations.

Anyways, hope you like it :)

Have a wonderful weekend!

The makingthingsgirl will be making drinks and cocktails all weekend, filling in at my old job, bartending at the Norwegian Metal Club in Oslo, Rock In. I should make a cocktail video...they're yummy, and it is technically making something...

Black no. 1

Quick, half serious video on how I dye my hair using off the shelf dyes like L'Oreal Paris Exellence Creme.
I'm really starting to enjoy making videos now, kinda getting the hang of it. The only thing that sucks is I need to figure out what audio tracks get removed and which doesn't... hmmm, there must be a trick.. *runs off to google*

Past dreadlock creations

I started making dreads over 9 years ago, and over the years I have made quite a few sets. Both for myself and for others, as well as sharing my skills with a lot of girls so they could make their own dreads.
My synthetic hair adventures started off by accident as I was trying to figure out something new to cover up my real dreads for a photoshoot with my good old photographer friend Arild Pellix back in 98. So, I grabbed a piece of shit packet of bad quality jumbo braid and made a loose ponytail to wrap around my own hair. It came out looking quite convincing, and I started searching the internet for more info on this. It was on one of these searches I stumbled across the old hairboard, a very frequently used forum for fellow synth hair makers/users. It's long gone and dead by now, but a few of the old users started up a new board which is currently up and running, and is visited by new people all the time. I must admit I'm in a bit of a "none dreads phase" of my life, but I visit the site almost daily to see what is going on in the world of synthetic hair these days. I also get the occasional order in for a few sets as well.

Check out the forum here!

Anyways, my love for fantastic hair and creative expression will never die, and all my best sets of hair are displayed proudly on my wall for guaranteed future usage :)

Here's a little video of some pics of a few of the styles I have created.

Hope you enjoy it, and I apologize for the last 2 pictures rly bad quality. They are of one of my earlier sets, so only had a crappy webcam back then to document it all with.

Have a great day!

How to reupholster an antique seat/ storage unit

Alright, so, I have finally had time to make a tutorial. The roman blind project got put on ice, as the fabric I had chosen were incredibly hard to work with for that type of thing. So, I give you this instead!

Enjoy, hope it inspires to dig out some old furniture, and turn it into something beautiful!

Have a great day!

Small update

Ok, saturday morning here, the weather is actually nice and sunny, and I'm off to the family cabin to help my dad with some building. So, my plan of making the jewellery storage board tutorial today kinda went down the drain. But, it will come, very soon indeed. My plan is to make another one to surprise a very special girl I know.

Another project is to make a lift curtain, sometime refered to as a roman blind, for my small bedroom window. I got all the materials needed yesterday, so when I get back from the mountain I'll dig into that project, with a tripod set up to document the process.

Have a great weekend! I'm off to find my tools :)

Quick update b4 bed

So, here's a quick pic of my bedroom window nr. 1.

And a quick shot of the beautiful moonlight outside my house :)

Enjoy, and good night!

Bedroom excitement!

I just finished curtains for the first window in my bedroom. It looks so good! I can't wait to show the finished result on here!
I made a board to keep all my jewellery displayed nicely on as well, I might make a quick tutorial on how to do that. Very easy, a 5 min project.

Anyways, back to the sewing board.

:)

:)

First video is posted, and as I am still sorting everything out, it all became a tad messy, but t least it's on youtube and working!

Enjoy the little tour, more to come later. Now, off to actually make something : Curtains!

Have wonderful day!

Moving in!

I've spent the past 2 days trying to sort out all my million things that I've had in storage for the past year or so. Damn, I own some crappy stuff! Too much to even have had 5 minutes to sit down and make anything...

Tomorrow is the big "learn how to edit movies using iMovie and sew curtains day"! I started editing a tour of the house movie, will post it when I'm finished with it. Now, a quick JD and coke and a smoke, and then off to bed!

Nighty night!

Btw, check out my friend's very funny blog over here!
